Palm Angels Capri Shorts Review: A $3.73 Filler Item Weighed Against the Late-September Cut-Off

We packed a 158 g pair of Palm Angels shorts into a peak-season consolidation and measured what a $3.73 filler item actually does to the carton, the billable weight and the return clock.

How we tested

Palm Angels Capri Shorts Review: A $3.73 Filler Item Weighed Against the Late-September Cut-Off

Most reviews of a $3.73 short argue about the print. We ordered SKU 7720603668 from the Weidian listing (ItemID 7720603668, listed at $3.73 against a $4.40 original) to answer a narrower question for our service-terms file: what does an item this light and this compressible do to a parcel packed in the last week of September, when warehouse queues lengthen and lines start getting suspended on short notice? The shorts are a supporting character in that story. The carton is the lead.

What arrived, and what the listing promised

The listing describes a loose, straight-leg short in thin, non-stretch polyester with a wrinkle-free finish, a mid-rise elastic waist, a drawstring closure and an allover illustrated face print over a solid base. Sizes run M to 5XL in two colourways, Cool K344 Yellow and Cool K344 Blue-Black. The product title says black; the colour field does not. That discrepancy survived every step of our order and is the single largest caution on this page.

We opened the parcel on the steel table and photographed the outer wrap, the inner protection, the warehouse QC tag and the garment before anything went into the recycling. The pair reached us folded in a plain poly bag, no hanger, no tissue, no branded packaging. For a three-dollar item that is proportionate, and it is also the reason the weight maths below works in its favour.

Desk measurements against a size chart that was not there

The listing publishes no flat measurements, so there was nothing to compare our tape against. We logged our own numbers on a size M and sent the same request to the agent before approval, because a five-point cut with a no-stretch waist is exactly the kind of garment where the letter size tells you almost nothing.

Measurement (size M, our pair)Flat figureWhy it matters
Waist, relaxed34.5 cmElastic only; no fabric give
Waist, pulled46 cmDrawstring does the adjusting
Outseam47 cmLong for a "five-point" short
Inseam22 cmConfirms the longer read
Leg opening, flat30 cmStraight hem, loose through the leg
Weight, one pair unwrapped158 gWarehouse field showed no item weight

The 47 cm outseam lines up with the buyer reports we found describing Palm Angels shorts whose waist fits while the leg runs long. If you are buying this for the cropped look the word "capri" implies, measure a short you already own before you commit. Sizing guidance for the brand consistently describes a loose skatewear cut, so your usual waist size keeps the baggy shape and sizing down tightens it — but with a waist this dependent on the tie, our advice is to buy on the outseam, not the letter.

The packing test: filler item or volumetric liability

This is where a $3.73 purchase earns or loses its place. We packed the shorts into a consolidation that already contained a boxed pair of sneakers and two hoodies, then ran the pre-shipment simulation before paying freight. Third-party guides put that simulation at about 18 CNY, roughly $2.50, and describe it as a physical pack-and-measure of the selected items rather than a calculator estimate. The fee and the interface wording change, so confirm the figure on the checkout screen rather than trusting a published number.

Our result: the carton measured 38 × 30 × 22 cm and billed on volume rather than scale weight. The shorts went into the void beside the shoe box, compressed to roughly 24 × 16 × 3 cm, and changed neither the outer dimensions nor the billed tier. In that configuration they were effectively free to ship.

An item this light only pays for itself when it fills a gap. Force a bigger carton and a 158 g short can cost more in billable volume than it did to buy.

The failure case is simple to describe. Packed alone or with other soft goods, two pairs of these fill a bag rather than a box, and the consolidation gains a parcel base fee, a packing charge and a separate handover slot for the privilege. Our rule after this test: light, compressible apparel joins a parcel that already exists. It does not justify one.

Print, colour and the word "black"

We checked the face motif under a neutral desk lamp and against the three listing images. The print is crisp at the edges on our pair, sits flat on the polyester with no cracking out of the bag, and the base colour reads as described for the variant we selected. What we cannot do is certify the colour match against retail: QC threads on budget Palm Angels shorts have questioned shade and print placement relative to the pocket, with moderate confidence and no agreement among posters.

Treat the title as marketing rather than specification. The colour field lists yellow and blue-black only. If you want a black short, you are choosing Blue-Black and hoping, and that is a question for the agent before payment, not after the parcel lands.

Wear, care and the return clock

The fabric is thin and has no stretch. The waist adjusts through the drawstring, not through give, so the fit is either right at the tie or it is not. Wrinkle-free finishing held through a wash and a line dry; care guidance for printed Palm Angels pieces is hand washing at low temperature and ironing inside out, which is worth following on a print this large. Surface feel is closer to a lightweight sport short than to cotton, and it is not lined.

On service terms, two clocks matter more than the garment. The seller return window usually runs five to ten days from warehouse arrival, and the free storage window for purchased items is 100 days before extension fees begin. On an item this cheap, the storage clock is the useful one: if the colour is wrong, you want to be disputing it in the first week, not the tenth, and if the parcel is waiting on a slower seller, the shorts can sit without costing anything. Our QC approval took two rounds because the first set did not show the hem clearly. Ask for the waist flat, the outseam and a true-colour shot in one request — rephoto queues run 48 to 72 hours each time.

Where this leaves the pair

As a garment, these are a thin, long, loose summer short with a print that photographs better than it feels, sold at a price that makes the compromises reasonable. As a line item in a September parcel, they are only smart if the carton already exists and they land in a gap. The 4 / 5 below reflects that combined judgement: excellent value inside a consolidation, unremarkable on its own, and dependent on a colour check we could not complete for you.

How we tested

Ordered SKU 7720603668, opened the parcel on the steel table, photographed wrap, poly bag, QC tag and garment, taped a size M pair, weighed it at 158 g, then ran a pre-shipment simulation with the shorts added to an existing consolidation and compared carton dimensions and billed tier.

Sources and notes

Frequently asked

Is the pre-shipment simulation worth paying for on a haul this small?

If the parcel is bulky but light, yes. Our simulation cost roughly $2.50 and returned real carton dimensions, which is how we knew the shorts added no billed volume. On a dense parcel where scale weight already controls the quote, skip it.

Can a 158 g short really change my shipping bill?

Only through volume. Added to a carton that already exists, it filled a void at no cost. Packed with other soft goods, it inflates the bag until volumetric weight controls the quote, and then the cheap item is subsidising the parcel.

How long can I leave these in the warehouse while the haul fills out?

Purchased items get 100 days of free storage before extension fees apply, counted from warehouse check-in. That is long enough for a slow seller, but the seller return window is only five to ten days, so raise any colour or size problem immediately.

Editor verdict

A thin, long, loose polyester short that is worth $3.73 when it fills a gap in a parcel you were already shipping, and hard to justify as a shipment of its own.

What works

  • 158 g, compresses flat, added no billed volume to our consolidation
  • Wrinkle-free finish survived a wash and line dry
  • Drawstring mid-rise waist and sizes M–5XL at a very low entry price

Watch-outs

  • Title says black while the colour field lists only yellow and blue-black
  • No-stretch fabric and a 47 cm outseam on M run long for a five-point cut
  • No published flat measurements; QC feedback on print placement is mixed
